Background

Pan Peninsula is London’s tallest residential building, located close to Canary Wharf in the heart of the Docklands. Built by international developers, Ballymore, Pan Peninsula has been fitted with the very latest computer controlled LED lighting system capable of creating a unique theatre of light which can be seen across the City of London. In addition to providing light shows for significant events during the calendar year, the building will be used to provide a digital display of the hours, minutes and seconds to the start of the Olympic Games in 2012.

An event, with Lord Coe as guest of honour, was scheduled for 22nd January 2009 to launch the new lighting display to those closely associated with the building – architects, surveyors and estate agents.

Our role

Ballymore wanted to position Pan Peninsula as an iconic building for London, using the dynamic lightly display as a platform for media coverage. The media attention was specifically targeted towards local press and broadcast media, with some selected property press and design media.

To ensure maximum exposure to the target media audience, we decided to invited selected media to the launch and to negotiate in advance TV coverage of the light show.

We contracted an independent TV production company to produce broadcast quality film to provide to the TV stations, and we created a TV package for coverage on the day of the launch. (Click for video)

Both the BBC and ITV covered the event during their local news bulletins throughout the day. The BBC did their weather report live at 18.55 hrs, with their weather reporter standing in front of the building. (click to view video)

What else did we do?

We did advance photography and used this for local and specialist media., and achieved coverage in all the targeted magazines.
